Fiber optic cable plays a starring role in helping integrators deploy some video systems, especially those with long distances from the camera to the headend. Fiber optic links allow for massive bandwidth capacities and immunity from Electro-Magnetic Interference (EMI) and Radio Frequency Interference (RFI). Security integrators can achieve cost savings by leveraging the vast amounts of unused optical fiber (“dark fiber”) that already exists in most large facilities, buildings and campuses.
While you can check out our full range of fiber optics solutions here, let’s zero in on a fully customizable solution that is totally unique to KBC Networks: the Application Specific Fiber Optic Modem (ASFOM). It’s a solution that allows you to specify what signals you need, how many you need, and how many fibers you want to use.
Fiber for Every Signal – Including Analog
Legacy analog systems will require transmission products for many years still. Though several manufacturers have elected to discontinue offering an analog fiber optic product, KBC Networks remains a stalwart in this product category. We will continue to do so for years to come.
Highly-Configurable Modular Design
ASFOM expands your configuration options, and it can be configured on both the optical side and the electrical side. When cable infrastructure cannot support the required system due to the number of optical interfaces needed, ASFOM solves this issue. With ASFOM, any electrical interface permutation can be transmitted on a single optical fiber (at distances up to 120km) from the remote location to the headend.
The ASFOM system is engineered with a modular design; it supports all the signals you see in the diagram below. For example, you may need six video channels, four fixed RS485 data channels, six duplex contact closures, one Ethernet, and two audio channels. Ordinarily, three or four different product links might be used to achieve all these signals, which in turn would require four to eight fibers. Instead, we take your requirements and custom-build a module for you with all of these signals built in — and we can do all this over just one or two fibers.
